E. J. Morten Booksellers

This bookshop has been trading from a characterful cobbled street shop in Didsbury Village since 1959.

The shop is open 9.30am-5.30pm Monday to Saturday, closed on Sunday.

It has two areas of stock – a retail bookshop and a historical second-hand and antiquarian book section. The owner, John Morten , is a member of the PBFA, ABA and ILAB: all bodies specialising in rare and antiquarian books.

The retail bookshop contains a varied selection of contemporary fiction and non-fiction, as well as classics. There is also a popular collection of new signed first-edition books, a bargain book table and a dedicated children’s room.

The antiquarian section is the shop’s speciality, with John regularly exhibiting at second-hand book fairs and selling rare books sourced from all over the world.

Private viewings can be arranged and also valuations. John’s colleague David has been serving in the shop for over 25 years, and maintains the attention to detail and passion for books that Morten’s is esteemed for.
