Manky Poets

Manky Poets is a monthly poetry night held at Chorlton Library, typically on the third Friday of every month.

Hosted by Copland Smith, it is composed of open mic slots for readings of poetry and prose, as well as a guest speaker. It has been running since 1978 with continued popularity.

Guest poets in the past have included Tony Walsh reading from his collection Sex & Love & Rock&Roll, South Manchester’s Cheryl Pearson (winner of the High Sheriff’s Cheshire Prize for Literature), Matthew Stewart reading from his collection The Knives of Villalejo, and many more.

Manky Poets has also played a part in wider literature events including The Chorlton Book Festival.

There is a small entry fee (usually £1/£2) and all are welcome, with readings typically lasting until 9.30pm. Attendees are welcome to carry on conversation at the pub afterwards.
