Flim Nite
A self-styled Manchester-based ‘Death to movies’ night where popular films are retold through poetry, comedy, music and more.
It’s held monthly – typically on the first Monday evening of every month – at the Three Minute Theatre in Manchester’s Northern Quarter.
Each event is themed around a particular film with classics in the past including Toy Story, The Fifth Element and Mullholland Drive.
At no point is the film itself shown. In their own words: ‘We will not be showing a movie. We will be making a flim’.
The film is announced ahead of the event, with performers registering their interest in advance if they want to provide a creative interpretation of it on the night.
Popular examples have included recreating Pulp Fiction – the Tarantino classic – with the help of a number of local notable writers, musicians and comedians including Joy France, Charlie Hammond, Tom Clements, Kate McCabe, Nathan Birkinshaw and Low Cinnabar.
Flim Nite also has an open-mic element, with select slots available for performances on the night.
