Radical Writing and Resistance Reading Group
Established to provide a regular space for discussion about radicalism in literature, arts and culture in the form of a reading group, typically held in the Ellen Wilkinson Building at the University of Manchester.
The Radical Writing and Resistance Reading Group covers work from 1918 onwards, with especial focus on post-1960 texts. Past readings have ranged from ‘The Muse of History’ by Derek Walcott to Le Corbusier’s ‘Architecture or Revolution’ and much more.
Meetings deliberately discuss four shorter readings – rather than one large text – which responsed to a set theme. These are typically released before each session, as well as news of any guest speakers.
Themes covered are extensive and engaging, and in the past have included ‘Anti-Capitalist Writing and Radical Activity’ and ‘Urbanism’.
Ideal for people interested in history, radicalism and social studies, the Radical Writing and Resistance Reading Group is organised by George Francis Bickers – a PhD candidate at the University of Manchester.
