The Poetry School
A national arts organisation that provides courses and one-to-one tuition for poets.
The Poetry School was founded by the poets Mimi Khalvati, Jane Duran and Pascale Petit in 1997 – and is committed to encouraging engagement with poetry.
The Poetry School;s motto is ‘make poetry happen’. It hosts a wide and varied programme of opportunities including courses, workshops and seminars across the country, taught by a range of well-known poets.
Poetry School events in Manchester have included a collaboration between Manchester Museum and poet Helen Mort, who delivered a guided writing session inspired by the displays. The Poetry School often runs courses in the Friend’s Meeting House, such as a recent course exploring ‘poetry and place’ hosted by Edmund Prestwich. The popular Saturday Sessions run by Ann and Peter Sansom of the Poetry Business have been traditionally held in the Manchester Art Gallery.
