Verbose
First started at Fallow Cafe in Fallowfield in 2015, Verbose has set about bringing performance poets and literature readings to the Manchester suburbs and beyond. Verbose won the Saboteur Award for best regular spoken word event in 2018. The event is currently run by Zena Barrie and Jo Howard.
Verbose’s focus on collaborating in literature has seen invitations extended to other groups around the North West so that each month sees a different draft of writers. Past shows have involved the likes of Bare Fiction, Nightjar Press, The Other Room, Manchester Left Writers and #Flashtaggers.
Verbose was also involved in Manchester’s first ever WAM Festival (Words And Music) at The Night & Day Café, taking place in October 2018 and curated by Dave Haslam.
Since the closure of Fallow Café, Verbose’s new home is Fred’s Ale House in Levenshulme.
Pencil Verbose in for the fourth Monday of the month (usually) and stay updated regarding location and guest speakers via their social media channels.
