Located within The University of Manchester’s main campus, The Martin Harris Centre for Music and Drama is an events venue and performance space.

Established in 2003, it regularly welcomes new as well as established artists to showcase their work in a range of mediums – from live literature to music and theatre.

It has provided a platform for a number of emerging creatives as well as artists of international acclaim, as part of its highly varied arts events programme.

Two performance spaces are based inside – the Cosmo Rodewald Concert Hall which has a 350-seat capacity and the John Thaw Studio Theatre.

Events have included the popular ‘Literature Live’ series, which features contemporary writers discussing topical issues in front of an audience. In the past this has included the likes of Jeanette Winterson, Kamila Shamsie and many more.

Poetry Day with Lemn Sissay was also hosted here, as well as Manchester Science Festival events and a number of events associated with the Manchester Literature Festival.

The centre is recognised for its live classical music in particular, with regular lunchtime showcases. MANTIS (Manchester Theatre in Sound) put on shows of electroacoustic music here.
