Beatification
Beatification is Manchester’s own live beat poetry and music night held at Fuel Café bar in Withington on the 3rd Wednesday of every month.
Run by John G. Hall, the founding editor of Citizen32 (who has also operated the popular Monday night ‘Haiku Club’ at the same venue), the evening combines music and poetry with punch – anyone is welcome to contact him for performance spots. [email protected]
Poets who have appeared at Beatification include Jackie Hagan, Matt Panesh, Neil Campbell and Anna Percy, as well as musical guests including Johnny Powell and the Seasonal Beasts. Short films exploring Beat culture and the music of the 1950s and 60s have also been shown.
Last year, Beatification launched a poetry and fiction magazine under the same name, and in the past has run popular workshops such as the Big Beat Poetry Workshop.
Offering ‘a relaxed exploration of all things Beat, exercises and reading and support for your own Beat spirit’ – Beatification is committed to encouraging continued interest in Beat poetry and culture.
